This course is aimed at final year medical students at Sheffield Medical School and provides training in the management of sick patients. It gives some insights into the need for teamwork, communication and situational awareness in the management of these patients.
At the end of the session, delegates will have learnt a systematic approach to the management of sick patients, including the ABC approach. Students will understand the role of a FY1 doctor, the need to call for help early and the role of effective communication (oral and written) during medical crisis - including the importance of an effective handover. Additionally, delegates attending the day will leave with an understanding of how teams work effectively during the management of acute medical emergencies and understand the roles of learership, followers, delegation and the roles/responsibilities of team members.
Final years students will attend this session towards then end of their final year, and is booked by Sheffield Medical School on their behalf.
