Paediatric Palliative Care

Course Information

This is a full day course for Clinical staff (Hospital, Community and Hospice nurses/health care workers, Medical staff) who are involved in the assessment and management of paediatric palliative patients.           

The educational aims are to:

Gain confidence in the assessment of an unwell patient
Improve awareness of the role of the Advanced Care Plan (ACP), Limitation of Treatment Agreement (LOTA), End of Life Pathway (EOLP)
Improve recognition of when basic life support is appropriate
Provide an understanding of some common pharmacological treatment side effects
Develop an understanding of procedure following the death of a patient

 

Themes that will be taught and reinforced during the day are a:

Systematic approach
Timeliness of intervention (appropriate to level of practice)
Summoning appropriate help / making a case
Attention to detail
Leadership / Follower skills 
Team work/anticipation
Communication & planning (written, verbal & non-verbal)
